The Issue
I have dedicated the last 55 years to the art and joy of roller skating, teaching basic roller skating fundamentals and rhythmic skate dancing for the past 52 years. As a certified level 2 inline skate instructor for the past 20 years, my mission has always been to guide others, developing a method called 'Skate Therapy' that integrates physical health with mental well-being. Over the years, I've encouraged America to embrace the joy of skating, fueling both community spirit and individual growth.
Now, our neighborhood in the Central Area of Seattle has the opportunity to enrich thousands of lives with the construction of a covered outdoor 'Skate Pavilion' in Judkins Park. This facility would be a beacon of activity, fostering connections and healthy recreation in our community. With a skate surface measuring 100 X 200 square feet, it offers substantial space for skaters to glide, learn, and engage in healthy exercise year-round. Surrounding bench seating will provide convenience and comfort for skaters and spectators alike, making it a gathering place for families and community members.
The pavilion, illuminated for safe evening use, could host skating events that enhance community life and celebrate our vibrant culture. Controlled operating hours would ensure the pavilion serves our community while respecting our neighbors.
The construction of such a pavilion would not only provide recreational space but would also serve as an investment in community wellness. By offering a covered facility, it extends accessibility in all weather conditions, promoting skating as a consistent and reliable form of exercise and social interaction.
Join us in asking the Seattle Parks Department to prioritize this project for the future of our community. Let's create a space where our families can thrive, and skating enthusiasts can continue to inspire the next generation with the joy and benefits of roller skating. Sign this petition to make the Central Area's dream of a Skate Pavilion a reality!
