The issue

We, the local residents from the north and south sides of the tracks in West Footscray, are coming together with one clear message: it’s time to reconnect our neighbourhood.

Right now, train tracks cut through the heart of West Footscray, dividing our community. The Tottenham railyards form a 2 kilometre long barrier through the heart of our community, with no way for residents to cross between Ashley Street and West Footscray Station. In 2025, that’s simply unacceptable.

WeFo United is calling on Maribyrnong City Council to work with the State Government to develop a clear plan for a safe, accessible pedestrian bridge over the railyards, linking Roberts Street in the south to Barkly Village in the north.

A well-designed bridge will Reconnect our neighbourhood

  • Linking residents in the south to the Barkly Village, the library and RecWest
  • Linking residents in the north to sporting and recreation facilities at Hansen Reserve
  • Improve safety, especially for children walking to school
  • Support local businesses in Barkly Village
  • Bring long-overdue unity to our vibrant and diverse community

With major projects like the State Government’s Activity Centre project encouraging denser housing around Tottenham and West Footscray, and the Sunshine Superhub project building new rail bridges in West Footscray, now is the time to fix West Footscray’s missing link.

This bridge isn’t just infrastructure, it’s about connection, fairness, and future-proofing our suburb.

Let’s end the divide. Sign the petition and help build the bridge that West Footscray needs, and deserves.
