The Issue

For more than 25 years, as a dedicated coach, I've witnessed athletes, coaches, schools, and families in Chorley eagerly awaiting the construction of a proper 400m athletics track. Our community's passion for athletics is undeniable, but without the right facilities, we find ourselves at a disadvantage.

While the recent investment in West Way is a step in the right direction, the new 100m sprint straight simply cannot replace the benefits of a full synthetic athletics track with field event facilities. The need for a regulation 400m track is pressing and more urgent than ever, as it serves as a cornerstone for comprehensive training and development.

A full 400m track is crucial for proper preparation and success in various athletic events including sprint events, middle-distance running, hurdles, relay training, long jump, high jump, throws, and other crucial field events. This track would be an invaluable asset, allowing athletes of all ages and abilities to train at a high level and fulfilling their potential.

Additionally, a regulation track would attract regional competitions, bringing with it increased opportunities for athletes in Chorley to compete against a broader field. This exposure is vital for their growth and competitive aspirations.

The installation of such a track would not only serve as an athletic hub for Chorley but also as a catalyst for community development and vitality. It would encourage healthier lifestyles, increase participation in sports, and provide a safe and dedicated space for athletic pursuits.

Join me in urging local authorities and stakeholders to prioritize the construction of a 400m athletics track in Chorley. It's time we provide our athletes with the facilities they deserve. Sign this petition to make a tangible difference in our community's athletic future.
