Today I attended the Buffalo Common Council Caucus and had the opportunity to speak to the Councilmembers in attendance about the history behind the so-called S word and the proposed change to Dedyo'wenuhguhdoh- the original Seneca name for the lands. Although Council member Golombek was not in attendance (the island rests in his district), all other councilmembers were enthusiastic about the name change! While this is a wonderful first step, we must still continue collecting signatures, spreading the word and garnering support to ensure that this happens as expeditiously as possible. The next step is to take this to a Community Development meeting (TBA). Please come on out to tomorrow to Buffalo Common Council to show support tomorrow and help keep the ball rolling!
