Thank you for signing the petition to reduce the speed limit of the A413 between Gerrards Cross and Chalfont St. Peter! Mobilising the local community is the key to gaining traction and providing visibility to Buckinghamshire Council and other authorities that this is a necessary change to improve the safety of this road.
The engagement so far from the local community has been incredibly passionate and supportive. There has been support from drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians and residents. It is clear that the stretch of road is used as a regular crossing point for commuters, school children and the local community frequently and lots of residents feel very unsafe. Equally, drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists feel they are taking their life into their own hands, especially when they are going against the flow of the A413 traffic at the Kingsway and Greyhound roundabouts. There were also specific concerns raised around the impact of HS2 HGVs that are due to start using the road in the coming months.
A reduction in the speed limit from 70mph to 40mph would result in only a 15 second increase in journey times across the 557m stretch between the two roundabouts. There are very few arguments for the limit to be kept at 70mph for such a small stretch.
Last night, the issue was discussed at length at the Chalfont St. Peter Neighbourhood Action Group and the immediate next steps were clarified:
· We will formally request support to change the speed limit from the Parish Council, Gerrards Cross Town Council and Buckinghamshire Council
· We will engage and request support from Thames Valley Police – a crucial stakeholder in achieving the right outcome
· We will continue to mobilise and engage the local community to demonstrate the level of support for the reduction of the speed limit
What can you do to support?
There are several ways that you can help and support our campaign!
· Please continue to share this petition and encourage friends, family and neighbours to sign. The petition clearly demonstrates the view of the local community and encourages the authorities to take note and action! With the current situation it is very difficult for us to canvas and engage the community door to door so this is really important for local visibility!
· Engage local parish, town and Buckinghamshire County Councillors – let them know that you are in favour of a speed limit reduction. Collectively our voice will be heard!
· Reach out to us with any comments, thoughts and suggestions at A413safety@gmail.com
