Fire Racist Associate Dean Anna di Robilant

Fire Racist Associate Dean Anna di Robilant
The Issue
The position for Associate Dean for Equity, Justice and Engagement at Boston University School of Law was created in 2018 and held by a Black woman, Professor Khiara M Bridges, for one year before being handed to Professor Anna di Robilant in 2019.
Professor Di Robilant is from a wealthy aristocratic Italian family which voluntarily participated in atrocities during WW2. Examples of their wilful participation in historical atrocities are as follows but not limited to; volunteering for the Nazi Waffen-SS, contributing and leading the Italian Eugenics Program alongside Benito Mussolini, pro-Fascist propaganda work in New York with attempts to recruit W.E.B du Bois to Fascism, and furthermore participated in Colonial projects and atrocities in East Africa. The historical power, activities, influence and ideology of this militant Fascist family as well as the political processes behind such power is well-researched and documented.
"Under Fascism, criticisms of American racism were frequently transfigured in such a way as to advance the Fascist cause. Paradoxically, therefore, the racist policies of the Fascist regime often coexisted with, and were even reinforced by, denunciations of the racist policies of the United States." - Impegno Nero: Italian Intellectuals and the African-American Struggle - C. L. Leavitt IV (2013)
Professor di Robilant built her career on inequality; inherited power, wealth and social connections extracted from deep historical social repression and oppression; all the elemental hallmarks of Fascio-Nazism. It is entirely inappropriate for this Professor to be leading work in Social and Racial Justice within any School let alone within a leading Law School.
There have been claims from BU Law that Professor di Robilant has denounced her family history though no evidence has been presented. The concern is that there has been a huge power grab due to a lack of transparency. This is detrimental and harmful not only to BU Law staff and students but to education, to society, and to the notion of Justice as a whole in particular for Black and Indigenous people and communities, and furthermore those who are less socio-economically privileged.
- This petition demands that Professor di Robilant be fired from her position as Associate Dean for Equity Justice and Engagement and that BU Law find an appropriate candidate for the role.
- An immediate suspension of Professor di Robilant's role should be put in place.
- We demand that BU Law disclose Professor di Robilant's salary for this role.
- We demand that BU Law be fully transparent and co-operative in this process.
