It is important to sign the petition within the next week because an emergency board meeting CANNOT be called after the school year has lapsed.

In an email sent out to parents of students enrolled in the Peel District School Board on June 17th, 2021, it was made known that the board had made a heedless decision to discard the Quadmester learning in Secondary Schools for the 2021-2022 school year. The board stated that they would rather be following a 'modified semester model' in which students will take a total of four courses over 20 weeks (one semester). They will alternate by taking two courses one week, then two other courses the next week. The board also stated that this change will be "will be more supportive of student learning". However, this will not be the case whatsoever. In the proposed model, students will not have time to focus on all 4 of their classes. This is because an alternating 2 class per week schedule will put a bigger workload on students as the work will keep piling up. Covid-19 has already caused depression and other mental health issues to students of the PDSB who struggle to learn in this new environment. A modified semester model will only make things work for students along with teachers. It seems as if this 'modified semester model' was a biased selection by the Peel District School Board as it came after the TDSB along with other boards announced that they will be following a similar modified semester model. This decision is just one of many poor decisions the PDSB has made since March 2020 and is definitely not an idea which many students or teachers will stand behind. I call for students and teachers of the board to bring their voices to light by signing this petition to let the board know that their decision is not one that is supported by its students and teachers. The PDSB should either go back to the standard semester model or the quadmester learning model for the 2021-2022 school year. If we do not speak out now then our voices will never be heard. Email your principals and trustees to let them know that you do not support this decision. It's time to let our voices be heard.
