This morning I had the pleasure of a conversation with a gentleman who told me how in October 1949 he visited an exhibition at Lowewood which was then the public library. The exhibition brought together over 100 objects which told the History of Hoddesdon and District and as a nine year old boy it was truly wonderful experience for him to view so many special documents and images. 71 years later Lowewood still has that ability to thrill both old and young and yet our Council wants to take it from us. My friend could never have imagined in 1949 that man would land on the moon, but that is the story currently being told at Lowewood and there are so many more historical events that could be told in this grand old building.
