The current newsletter of the Friends of Lowewood Museum was sent to all 30 members of Broxbourne Borough Council and brought a swift response from the Council Leader Lewis Cocking who claimed that we had misrepresented the facts surrounding the closure of the Museum. He added that that the closure proposal would not go before the Full Council for a final decision as that decision had been made by him and his four cabinet colleagues. How is that democratic? The 30 Borough councillors were elected by the inhabitants of the various wards to act on befall of those that elected them. We have been petitioning these councillors regarding the situation, but it appears that they have no say in the matter.
I also recently contacted Councillor Cocking regarding the apparent lack of Museum publicity coming from Broxbourne Borough Council, especially as there is the current prestigious exhibition of the the work of the Royal Academy artist James Ward at Lowewood. He assured me they were still promoting the Museum in the usual way, funny then that the recently published Borough magazine, Our Broxbourne, has no mention of the exhibition even though it still has nearly a month to run. If I did not know better I might assume that the Museum was already closed!
