“I support funding a dialysis unit in the hospital located in Nelson BC.  Nelson and Area Dialysis patients require critical life saving appointments, 3 times a week, which are only available in Trail Regional Hospital.  This includes patients in Nelson, Slocan valley, Nakusp, Kaslo, and Balfour.  There are no transportation options for patients to get to Trail Regional Hospital.  Transportation is very difficult for patients and their families.  We feel there should be a dialysis unit moved to the Nelson hospital.  These patients often have complex health issues and cannot handle home dialysis by themselves.  Putting a dialysis unit in Nelson would be efficient for many patients in our community (ie save 8 current patients; 6 trips a week) and relieve pressure on the oversubscribed Dialysis units in Trail Hospital.
