Hello to all of the incredible supporters of this petition. I have now sent the following email and attachments to The British Horseracing Authority, Kier Starmer, and Defra. Let’s hope for a reform or even better a complete ban. Thank you again for your support. I am keeping the petition ongoing to allow signatures to increase and make an even bigger impact.

Dear all,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to bring your urgent attention to a growing concern shared by thousands of citizens across the UK: the continued suffering and exploitation of horses within the racing industry. I have recently launched a petition on Change.org calling for a full ban on horse racing, which is rapidly gaining support.

There are currently 131,219 signatures, growing every minute.

Horse racing, though deeply rooted in British tradition, has become increasingly heartbreaking due to the inhumane treatment of horses—ranging from forced training, doping, and whipping, to the distressing frequency of injuries and fatalities on and off the track. Many horses are discarded once they are no longer profitable, and the mental and physical toll of racing on these intelligent, sentient animals cannot be justified by entertainment or profit.

The public is growing ever more aware of these injustices. Animal welfare must take precedence over outdated practices - this is horror, not heritage. It is time for the UK to lead with compassion and modern values, just as we have in other areas of animal rights reform.

According to horsedeathwatch.com, there has been 2981 deaths in 6601 days; 241 of which were last year alone. This is a heartbreaking increase of 21.6% from the previous year.

This number doesn’t even begin to include those who collapse during training, are discarded when they can no longer race, or are killed in slaughterhouses after their “careers” end.

Animals are not ours to use for entertainment, and the British public is becoming increasingly angry at the horse racing industry and demands a reform.

I respectfully urge you to:

  • Review the information and growing public support behind this petition.
  • Open a formal inquiry into the ethical implications and welfare standards in the horse racing industry.
  • Begin the legislative process to phase out and ultimately ban horse racing in the UK.

I am available to provide further evidence, speak on behalf of the petition’s supporters, and collaborate with animal welfare experts to push for a kinder, more just future for horses.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.
