The first day of Cheltenham Races this year has already taken the life of a five-year-old horse. The horse sustained injuries jumping a hurdle and was consequently killed. 

Around 200 horses per year die in the UK as a result of horse racing - imagine if 200 Formula One drivers died every year in the UK - would the sport continue? Would stricter measures be taken?
