Stop Wasting Taxpayer Money on Asylum Seekers - Support British Citizens First
To the Honourable Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the allocation of taxpayer money, particularly in relation to the support provided to asylum seekers. While we understand the importance of offering refuge to those in need, we strongly believe that the current approach is misaligned with the urgent needs of British citizens, many of whom are facing significant challenges in their daily lives.
The Issues are below
• Housing Crisis:
British citizens are struggling to access affordable housing, with long waiting lists for social housing and unaffordable private rents. Meanwhile, billions of pounds are being spent on housing asylum seekers in hotels, often at the expense of British taxpayers.
• Financial Burden:
The Home Office spent £4.7 billion on asylum support in 2023-24, with £3 billion allocated to housing in hotels – an average of £8 million per day. Additionally, £4.3 billion of the UK aid budget was spent on refugee costs in the UK in 2023. This money could have been better spent on supporting British citizens, including: Our Crumbling NHS: Providing adequate funding for healthcare services and ensuring access to essential treatments for all British citizens.
• Support for Vulnerable Groups:
Allocating resources to support the LGBTQ+ community, disabled individuals, and elderly citizens who are currently being neglected by the system.
• Decline in Social Housing Stock:
The lack of affordable housing and the failure to cap private rents have left many British families struggling to make ends meet, while asylum seekers are often prioritised for accommodation.
Proposed Solutions
1. Stop Wasting Taxpayer Money:
• Immediately halt the practice of providing free accommodation and allowances to asylum seekers. This money should be redirected to support British citizens who are struggling to survive.
2. Address the Housing Crisis:
• Invest in building more social housing and introduce rent controls to prevent private landlords from charging exorbitant rates.
3. Support Vulnerable Groups:
• Use the saved funds to establish support hubs for the LGBTQ+ community, increase funding for disability benefits, and provide better care for elderly citizens.
4. Reduce Food Waste:
• Implement fines for supermarkets that dispose of edible food past its "best before" date and redistribute surplus food to those in need.
5. Ensure Asylum Seekers Contribute:
• If asylum seekers are allowed to remain in the UK, they should be required to work and contribute to the system. This could include cleaning streets, removing graffiti, or other community services while their claims are being processed.
Serious Call to Action
We urge you, as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, to take immediate action to address these issues. The British people are tired of seeing their hard-earned taxes being wasted on a system that prioritises asylum seekers over British citizens.
It is time to put the needs of our own people first.
By signing below, we demand that the government:
• Stop wasting taxpayer money on asylum seekers.
• Redirect these funds to support British citizens, including those struggling with housing, healthcare, and disability benefits.
• Implement policies that ensure asylum seekers contribute to the system if they are allowed to stay in the UK.
Together, we can make a difference and ensure that the British government prioritises the needs of its own people.
Stand Strong, Stand Proud – Support British Citizens First!
If you agree that taxpayer money should be used to support British citizens rather than asylum seekers, please sign and share this petition. Together, we can make our voices heard and bring about real change.
