DEMAND UK GOVERNMENT TO HALVE THE FUEL DUTY WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.
The Issue
Immediate demand to reduce forecourt fuel duty to £0.25 per litre
The current increase of forecourt fuel is crippling everyone in the current struggling economy, from essential care workers, essential services and of course the shipment of everyday goods. This will in turn be passed on to the consumer, whom is already struggling as we come out of the pandemic restrictions.
These are the current tax Rates:
Petrol, diesel, biodiesel and bioethanol
57.95 pence per litre.
VAT @ 20% is then added on top, how can it be justified that more than half the cost of fuel at the pump is taxation. We have seen the UK government pay furlough whilst we stayed at home during a pandemic, is it that unreasonable to slash the fuel duty. Although the Russian invasion is having an effect of the barrel price of fuel, there are other countries oil can be purchased, UK demand from Russia is only 8%.
Keeping taxation high to try and curb use is not a reasonable excuse to keep fuel prices high.
Fuel duty should be slashed with immediate effect to £0.25p per litre.
