Dear Friends,
As I'll be travelling for the next 2 weeks over Christmas, I would like to wish you all an early but very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Thank you all so much for your incredible support for these last 19 months! We have achieved some great things in that time, from the meeting with BA in October 2014, going to the IAG shareholder meeting in June 2015 to having the California Coastal Commission rule that SeaWorld San Diego needs to stop breeding and transferring their orcas if SeaWorld wants to double the tanks.
But we won't stop here! 2016 has a lot to offer already so here's a little campaign update for what we have in store next year.
So far we have been waiting for BA to uphold their part of the bargain we agreed to in October 2014. They asked us to provide them more scientific evidence against orca captivity and asked us to stop all social media actions in return for a continued dialogue, their willingness to understand the science, and even a possible follow up meeting.
None of that has happened. We did everything BA asked of us but BA went completely silent since we forwarded them one of the many lawsuits SeaWorld is currently involved in and asked them to make a statement. British Airways has not upheld their part of the agreement so we're taking back over control now.
For the next year, I envisage the following plans:
- Catch up with WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, regarding their ABTA petition
- Targeting SeaWorld's currently biggest "asset". (more on that next year)
- Taking back over BA's social media since they have decided to ignore all evidence showing that orcas can't thrive in captivity
- a potential demonstration at BA's headquarters in London in the summer time.
These are rough ideas for now so I will keep you posted about the details. I certainly won't sit here any longer and be ignored by BA anymore, that's for sure!
If you have any suggestions for campaign plans next year, please do get in touch and get involved. This is your campaign as well. ;)
I hope to see you all in 2016 and wish you all the best for the upcoming Holiday Season.
Best wishes,
Kathleen
