The issue

This petition of electors of the Ward of Hamilton draws to the attention of the Brisbane City Council (BCC) the crushing of waste concrete and screening of construction and demolition (C&D) waste at the Pinkenba Waste Transfer Facility by GLB Quarrying and Logistics at 41 Eagle Farm Road, Pinkenba.

We note:
(a) the current operation of the Pinkenba Waste Transfer Facility produces toxic dust which is a known carcinogenic (as stated by the Material Safety Data Sheet by Lafarge Concrete America) and will cause lethal health problems;
(b) the current operations have been occurring since 2006 despite numerous complaints from residents about the dust concerns and health risks;
(c) in recent years operations have escalated to well outside what is currently allowed under their development application and are currently under investigation by the Department of Environmental Heritage and Protection; and
(d) given the proximity of the operation to local residents there is extreme outrage and objection about GLB Quarrying’s application for a change of use and the approval for a Waste Management Facility and Outdoor Storage Yard.

Your petitioners therefore request the Council:
(a) reject GLB Quarrying’s development application;
(b) direct GLB Quarrying to cease crushing and screening of construction and demolition (C&D) waste operations at 41 Eagle Farm Rd immediately; and
(c) relocate their facility to a more suitable location.
