Protect Salvin Creek waterway corridor - Reject development application A004470663

This petition made change with 532 supporters!

We want to prevent the development and privatisation of a waterway corridor, which a developer wants to retain and use for recreation development and buildings.

On September 2nd 2016 TriCare lodged a new application (No. A004470663) claiming "permissible change" which has no requirement for public scrutiny or appeal rights. Brisbane City Council will decide the outcome of this application by 30 days from the lodgement date. Therefore we require your support ASAP.

The proposed development is contrary to BCC's waterway biodiversity and flood hazard mapping and codes as well as BCC's City Plan. It compromises a strategic wildlife corridor linking Whites Hill to Bulimba Creek. The waterway corridor provides significant hydraulic, ecological and community functions and values.

TriCare's proposed development is at 880 Creek Road, Carina Heights. An application for an Aged Care Facility was approved in May 2016. It provided for a large-scale development to be implemented over 15 years.

It encroached into the Salvin Creek Waterway Corridor. TriCare did not dedicate the waterway section back to BCC, which is usual practice. Instead it retained about 1/3 of the waterway in its private ownership. BCC approved this and placed a Zoning of Environmental Protection Area over this part of the waterway.

In this new application, TriCare wants BCC to drop the Environmental Protection Area designation and allow a private bowling green, along with built infrastructure (3 full-metal structures, 3 shade shelters, paths, plumbing and electrical installations).

Our waterways, wildlife and local lifestyle are worth protecting. There has been successful rehabilitation and revegetation work go into the Salvin Creek corridor by volunteers over 23 years. It would be a great loss to undermine it now.
