The Issue

The Issue

Our community at Mile End Place, Stepney Green, is currently experiencing a significant digital divide. While the broader London area continues to benefit from rapid advancements in broadband infrastructure, our street remains reliant on outdated, slow-speed connections. In the modern era, high-speed, reliable internet is not a luxury-it is a critical utility required for daily life, remote work, education, and economic participation. In the last 2 years, we have experience many internet disconnections with 5+ instances lasting more than 3 days.

Our Community

We are representing a collective of 32 dwellings (comprised of 28 houses and an apartment block containing 4 flats) and 10+ small businesses located adjacently to Mile End Place.

The current lack of full fibre access places our residents and local business owners at a distinct disadvantage. Our community is being left behind, unable to participate fully in the digital economy that the UK government aims to support through its target of 85% full fibre coverage by 2025.

The Benefits of Upgrading

Investing in full fibre infrastructure for our street will provide tangible benefits:

 • Economic Growth: Supporting our 10+ local businesses, which rely on stable, high-speed connectivity to serve customers and manage operations.

 • Educational Equity: Ensuring that students and families in our 32 dwellings have the necessary bandwidth for online learning and research.

 • Property Value & Community Vitality: Modern infrastructure is essential for maintaining the competitiveness and desirability of our neighborhood.

 • Digital Inclusion: Closing the gap between our street and the surrounding areas that already enjoy high-speed access.

Our Request

We, the undersigned residents and business owners of Mile End Place, formally request that Openreach prioritizes our street for a full fibre upgrade. We urge you to address this disparity and ensure that our community is not excluded from the digital infrastructure that is essential for our future.

Signed,

Residents and business owners of Mile End Place (E14BH)
