Young driver car insurance has become far too expensive, with some young people being quoted thousands of pounds and, in extreme cases, even up to £10,000. This makes driving unaffordable for many new drivers, especially students and young workers who need a car for college, work, family responsibilities, or independence.

Instead of helping young drivers, the system often punishes them just because of their age, even if they are responsible and safe. Many young drivers are forced to either pay extremely high prices, depend on family, or stop driving altogether.

Black box insurance is often offered as a cheaper option, but it is not always a fair solution. A black box is still a machine, and machines can make mistakes. It can wrongly judge driving behaviour because of sudden braking, bad roads, GPS errors, speed limit mistakes, or situations outside the driver’s control. This can lead to higher costs, warnings, or even cancellation, which is not fair on young drivers.

Young drivers need fairer insurance prices, better support, and more realistic options that do not treat every young person as a high-risk driver before they have even had a chance to prove themselves.
