The Issue

In the history of Knott’s Berry Farm, few attractions captured the spirit of Americana and family competition like Knott's Wacky Soap Box Racers. From its debut as the Cycle Chase to its beloved transformation into a high-speed downhill race, this attraction was a core memory for generations of Southern Californians (myself included). We are calling on Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Entertainment Corporation to bring back a modern spiritual successor of the Soap Box Racers.

History:

The ride first opened as the Motor Cycle Chase in 1976. In 1980, the ride received new ride vehicles and was renamed Wacky Soap Box Racers. It operated until 1996, as the track and special effects had worn out. A year later, it was replaced by Windjammer Surf Racers, which itself was replaced by Xcelerator in 2002.

Personal Story:

In 1994, me and my best friend since birth were riding the Soap Box Racers together in the same car. I remember her pointing out that the car next to us was pulling ahead and was about to win. It's the last memory of the ride I have, it was removed two years later.

Why This Matters Now:

The Power of Shared Joy: Unlike most coasters, the Soap Box Racers allowed friends and family to engage in a head-to-head race. It was a ride that fostered teams, laughter, and lifelong bonds.
Nostalgia: There is a massive community of fans who grew up on these tracks. In an era of high-tech screens, the park needs the tactile thrill of a physical race.
A Unique Competitive Edge: A modern racing coaster would fill a specific gap in the park's current lineup, offering a memorable family-thrill experience that appeals to children and adults alike.
Our Goal: We ask Knott’s Berry Farm to honor its heritage by reimagining the Soap Box Racers for the 21st century. Let’s give the next generation of best friends and family the chance to experience the same thrill and joy we did back then.

This petition is dedicated to the bold and brave souls who taught us how to race, and to the memories that remain life's greatest treasures.
