Bring the Overwatch Archives event back

Bring the Overwatch Archives event back
The Issue
Overwatch’s development team first launched Archives with the 2017 release of Uprising. The Archives event captivated fans of Overwatch's lore and introduced a cooperative, PvE gaming experience, unique from most standard, PvP centric game modes.
Through Archives, players deepened their connection with their favourite heroes. They also bonded with other players who shared a passion for Overwatch lore. Some players simply enjoyed the less stressful gameplay and atmosphere. Archives offered challenge mission variants and increased difficulty settings as well, for players who seeked greater intensity, risk and reward.
Team 4 created a game which emphasized challenge, strategy, teamwork, character and narrative design, but also connection and community. The Archives event provided one of the most complete Overwatch experiences, and became the most celebrated seasonal event from Overwatch’s first 5 years.
Overwatch celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Acknowledging the franchise’s history, its legacy, and its impact on countless players around the world the past decade also means recognizing the Archives event and its influence as well.
Reinstating Archives at some point provides a special commemorative and collaborative opportunity. Many Overwatch players today never experienced Archives for themselves. In lieu of 2026 Season 1’s theme introducing a new era, what better time to think about sharing one of Overwatch’s most beloved events with the next generation of heroes? With Practice vs. AI queue times regularly under a minute long and custom PvE lobbies as active as ever, a readily available audience exists for Archives and PvE content consideration.
“Never accept the world as it appears to be. Dare to see it for what it could be.” – Harold Winston
Together, we can make that possibility a reality.
