Ever since I was a little kid, I've hated pollution and wanted to do whatever I can to stop it. Seeing garbage and waste in our beautiful city breaks my heart, especially because a lot of it could be recycled. Unfortunately, there are no recycling bins at any playgrounds in New York City. I’ve also seen that in some parks, not only are there no recycling bins, but trash is overflowing and scattered all around the area.

Placing recycling bins in all playgrounds throughout New York City would provide an essential and convenient solution to reduce waste and promote environmental responsibility. With accessible recycling options, families enjoying a day out can easily dispose of their recyclables, helping to keep our playgrounds clean and safe for children. According to the NYC Department of Sanitation, New Yorkers generate more than 12,000 tons of waste each day, much of which ends up in landfills and contributes to pollution, when it could be repurposed through recycling efforts.

In addition to providing recycling bins, I propose organizing community park cleaning days where volunteers can come together to clean up their local parks and playgrounds and raise awareness about the importance of recycling and pollution reduction. Such community initiatives foster a sense of stewardship and pride among residents, further strengthening the push for more sustainable practices in our neighborhoods.
