Animals experiencing abuse and neglect cannot ask for justice themselves. They depend on dedicated investigators who are willing to take their cases seriously, build strong reports, and pressure accountability under the law. 

We are asking the Detroit Police Department to bring Officer DeLaney back to investigating and handling felony animal abuse and neglect reports and cases. Officer DeLaney has demonstrated dedication to pursuing animal cruelty cases and seeking charges against individuals accused of serious abuse and neglect. Detroit needs experienced officers who understand these cases, recognize their seriousness, and are committed to following them through. 

Recent information regarding the handling of animal cruelty cases within the Detroit Police Department's Complex Crimes Unit has raised significant concerns among animal advocates and community members. Every number represents a potential victim. When a felony animal cruelty report is made, there may be an animal who has been beaten, starved, abandoned, tortured, or otherwise subjected to serious suffering. These cases deserve investigators who will give them the attention and persistency they require. 

This petition asks Detroit Police Department leadership to restore Officer DeLaney to a role in which he can investigate felony animal aubse and neglect reports, develop these cases, and pursue criminal charges when supported by the evidence. 

Detroit's animals deserve meaningful enforcement of the laws intended to protect them. Bring Officer DeLaney back. Give felony animal cruelty cases the attention they deserve. Give a voice to the animals who cannot speak for themselves.
