Bring Nationals back to ESPN Wide World Sports

Bring Nationals back to ESPN Wide World Sports
The Issue
Over the years, Pop Warner has been a transformative force, providing countless children with the chance to create enduring memories that would have otherwise been unattainable. When one thinks of Orlando, Disney World is inevitably intertwined with those thoughts, and the prospect of playing in a National Tournament at Disney was a dream cherished by every child. Regrettably, that dream has been altered due to the decision to move the National Tournament away from ESPN Wide World of Sports.
In the past two years, since this pivotal change, I have encountered a consistent stream of negative feedback. Issues such as subpar fields, inadequate parking, high overall trip costs, and concerns about the location of Camping World Stadium have been prevalent. While Camping World Stadium is undeniably beautiful, its location is not only perceived as unsafe but also unsuitable for hosting a youth national tournament.
The financial aspect also merits attention. This year, the fees imposed on leagues, players, and parents for participation are exorbitant. The quality of available hotels, although some are reasonable, remains a challenge for most leagues that cannot afford the substantial costs. Additionally, the absence of transportation services, as was provided by Disney, compounds the financial burden on parents and leagues. In the past, players and coaches had access to theme parks, contributing to the overall experience. However, this year, the financial strain extends to requiring payments for access to Universal or Disney, further limiting the opportunities for children, particularly those from urban areas.
Turning our attention to the playing fields, concerns about the absence of scoreboards and the substandard quality have surfaced. Reports indicate that multiple parking lots are transformed into playing fields in the weeks leading up to the championship week, compromising the integrity of the playing surfaces. This has led to a perception that Pop Warner is prioritizing financial gains over providing a conducive environment for the children, contrary to the ideals promoted on your website.
On the Pop Warner website, a commitment is made to "ensure a safer and positive playing environment for all participants." It is evident that such an environment was best achieved at Disney World. We implore you to consider reverting to the previous setup, which resonated more positively with participants. The current trajectory seems to prioritize financial gains at the expense of the memorable experiences that were once synonymous with Pop Warner.
It is noteworthy that the Pop Warner website still prominently features photos from Wide World of Sports rather than Citrus Sports, underscoring the enduring appeal of the former.
In conclusion, we respectfully urge Pop Warner to reevaluate the current state of affairs and consider reinstating the elements that made the organization a cherished part of many children's lives. Returning to the roots of what made Pop Warner special will undoubtedly restore its appeal and reaffirm its commitment to creating positive and lasting memories for the youth it serves.
