Bring Low-Cost Spay/Neuter & TNR to New Jersey!

Bring Low-Cost Spay/Neuter & TNR to New Jersey!
The Issue
Support Bills S261 / A3635- Compassion for Community Cats Law
Bring low-cost Spay/Neuter & TNR to New Jersey! Support The Compassion for Community Cats Law, NJ, Bills S261 / A3635, to provide affordable spay/neuter for low-income residents and trap-neuter-return (TNR) for community cat caregivers across NJ. THE TIME IS NOW to tell key legislators to move S261 and A3635 out of committee to the next step and eventual vote in the full NJ Legislature before we lose another year of state funding.
Since moving to Hudson County in 2021, we’ve seen firsthand the struggles of community cats and the tireless efforts of volunteers working to humanely control their population through TNR. While these donors, individuals and rescues have made progress, their efforts alone cannot solve this crisis—it is a systemic issue.
The rising costs of veterinary care, the continuous influx of cats born outside or abandoned, and the lack of adequate municipal TNR programs make this a problem that demands urgent state-level support. And the population is growing exponentially. Research shows that one cat can have thousands of kittens in its lifetime.
The only way to fix this is intensive TNR, which has been shown in studies to reduce community cat populations by up to 82%. Bills S261 in the Senate and A3635 in the Assembly together will provide direct funding to local municipalities and health departments to support TNR programs, ensuring that humane management strategies are implemented effectively and sustainably.
THE TIME IS NOW to tell key legislators to move the bill out of committees to the next step and eventual vote in the full NJ Legislature before we lose another year of state funding. This is the humane way to humanely control street cat populations and help our low-income neighbors keep their pets at home.
