Bring in Dublin's 24hr E spine bus before Christmas

The Issue

Bring in Dublin's 24hr E spine bus before Christmas

Agitation and a fierce campaign on the part of politicians in Dublin Central and Dublin North West, notably Gary Gannon of the Social Democrats has resulted in the postponement of 24hr bus routes for Dublin. The buses were due to be launched before Christmas to help Dubliners get home late at night and get to work shifts early in the morning but have been postponed to January at the earliest due to fierce misinformation of BusConnects in the Drumcondra and Glasnevin area regarding other changes planned in the same BusConnects phase.

Gannon launched a petition to 'save the 11' without even mentioning the replacement 19 bus which was to be more frequent and provide a vital new connection to Dublin airport. In 'saving' the number 11 bus route, Gannon and others have in effect deprived people in the following areas of a 24-hour bus service in the run-up to Christmas:

Santry
Ballymun
DCU
Glasnevin
Phibsborough
City Centre
UCD
Stillorgan
Deansgrange
Dún Laoghaire
Shankill
Bray

This will mean longer commutes, crammed buses, and continued hardship and expensive taxi fares for those working in the nighttime economy.

Gannon is now defending his campaign and, when asked about the delay to the 24hr buses his campaign had, he said:

"I’m not worried about the 24-hour bus service for South Dublin" and that it “isn’t just an election stunt”

Gary Gannon’s Comments

If you, like many Dubliners, are livid by these small minded tactics, please sign this petition to make it known that the convenience of a few shall not over-ride the needs of the many. Bring in the 24hr BusConnects buses now!
