Bring G7 Littlest Pet Shops to Australian Shelves: We need LPS Down Under!
The issue
Calling all Australian Littlest Pet Shop fans!
Are you tired of watching collectors across the world enjoy new waves of G7 LPS while we have been left with almost no opportunity to purchase them at all?
Have you been frustrated by having to rely on expensive reseller listings or inflated overseas imports because of inequitable supply decisions that exclude G7 Littlest Pet Shops almost entirely from our local shelves?
This petition is an opportunity for Australian collectors to make their voices heard and call for fairer access to G7 Littlest Pet Shops!
With this petition we call on Basic Fun and Banter Toys to:
a) Increase the quantity of Littlest Pet Shop products allocated to Australia so that they are available at a range of local retailers at prices closer to those seen in other major markets.
b) Make all missed G7 waves available in Australia in their entirety, and re-release Waves 1–3, which saw an incomplete launch with numerous products and sets unavailable to Australian consumers.
c) Make sure that future waves of Littlest Pet Shops are released in Australia in a timely fashion with no missing products so that Australian audiences can enjoy G7 LPS to the full in line with other major markets.
The details of this issue:
Incomplete Australian Launch - Despite significant joy, excitement and anticipation among Australian collectors about the rerelease of Littlest Pet Shop, Australia has seen a very limited and disorderly launch of G7 products. While the initial launch of Wave 1 in Australia occurred between 7 and 8 months after the release in other major markets like the United States and Canada, the variety of products that did eventually reach Australian stores was limited. The release of Wave 1 saw a few sparse sets and blind boxes while Wave 2 saw an even more limited launch. The release of Wave 3 in Australia was practically non-existent apart from some of the plush pets and the occasional tube. All subsequent waves have been completely absent.
This has been disheartening for passionate Australian LPS collectors who see the incredible and exciting new designs of Basic Fun's Littlest Pet Shops all over their social media pages while knowing that they will likely never have the opportunity to purchase them.
The Impacts of Resellers and Online Mark-ups - Limited retail availability has contributed to increased reseller activity and higher prices on secondary marketplaces. Many collectors have expressed frustration that the small quantity of G7 products that did reach Australian stores sold out quickly and subsequently appeared online at substantially higher prices. Now sites like eBay have been flooded with listings of G7 sets priced at double, and sometimes even triple the original retail value. Some resellers are even selling individual G7 pets at prices anywhere from $10 to $30, oftentimes at even greater costs than the entire original set in which these pets originally came.
Furthermore, the importation of new Littlest Pet Shops from sites like Amazon is made completely unfeasible for the vast majority of Australian collectors due to exorbitant prices and costly international shipping. For example, Wave 1 Petfluencer pairs are being sold for $31 on Amazon while Wave 4 spa pet pairs are priced at $50 and the Wave 4 Spin and Style set is being sold for an astounding $74. These prices are far above what most people can feasibly pay for Littlest Pet Shops illustrating the need for G7 products to be released properly in stores so that collectors who do not want to pay these unreasonable prices can enjoy them.
Flow on Effects on the Second Hand Market - The limited availability of G7 products appears to have contributed to increased interest in older 2000s generations of Littlest Pet Shop on secondary marketplaces like eBay and Gumtree, where prices have risen significantly in recent years. Where once you could commonly purchase one Littlest Pet shop for between $1-3, in recent times many listing now range from $6-20 per pet. Aside from making these older Littlest Pet Shops inaccessible to many collectors, it is highly indicative of a vast market of unfulfilled demand for new G7 pets in Australia.
Why the Australian Market has been Underestimated - The rapid sell out of many G7 products, the growth of Australian LPS collector groups and the high prices people are willing to pay for LPS on second-hand sites is indicative of strong demand for Basic Fun's products in Australia. These factors indicate that the Australian market was likely underestimated when stock allocations were determined.
Overall, Australian collectors are simply asking for the same opportunity to enjoy G7 Littlest Pet Shop products that collectors in other major markets already receive. Through increased stock allocations, release of missed and incomplete waves and the assurance that future waves of G7 will be released in Australia Basic Fun and Banter Toys can display their commitment to Australian fans and build market confidence.
If you believe that Australian collectors deserve fairer access to G7 Littlest Pet Shop products, please sign this petition. Your support will demonstrate the passion of the Australian LPS community, highlight the strength of consumer demand in Australia and show Basic Fun and Banter Toys that Australian fans remain eager to support the continued success of Littlest Pet Shop.
