The Issue

Growing up without a parent, or having an incarcerated spouse, creates challenges that many families in Ohio face daily. It takes a toll on the emotional well-being of children who miss the presence of a parent, and on spouses who must manage the family alone.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) currently does not allow conjugal visits for inmates, making it difficult for families to maintain a close bond during incarceration.

Conjugal visits may help reduce recidivism, which benefits the community by decreasing the likelihood of reoffending upon release. Conjugal visits provide a wonderful opportunity for inmates to transition easily back into society.

Having conjugal visits in Ohio's prison facilities for well-behaved inmates would be a step closer in the right direction. It would not only strengthen family ties but also reward good behavior and reduce crime in ODRC facilities and in our communities.

By signing this petition, you can help urge Ohio's state legislators and the ODRC to consider this and allow conjugal visits for well-behaved inmates and their families to maintain a close bond and reduce violence, crime, and drugs in ODRC facilities.
