Bring Clean, Piped Water to Beecher Town, Jamaica- A Basic Human Right.
The Issue
Petition Content
Beecher Town, Jamaica, still does not have access to clean, piped water.
For decades, families have relied on rainwater and the uncertain arrival of water trucks to meet basic needs.
This is not just an inconvenience—it is a matter of dignity and a basic human right.
Beecher Town, nestled in the parish of St. Ann, is a place many proudly call home. Though many now reside abroad, the bonds of community remain strong. Yet despite this connection and resilience, the reality persists: there is still no reliable access to running water.
In Beecher Town, daily life is shaped by the absence of something most take for granted. Water must be collected, stored, and carefully rationed. When tanks run dry, there is no backup. This is the reality for families, children, and the elderly—year after year.
For generations, the people of Beecher Town have endured these conditions without reliable access to water. Despite their resilience and resourcefulness, this situation has persisted for far too long.
In recent years, progress appeared within reach. A feasibility study was conducted, and viable water sources were identified—yet the promise of running water remains unfulfilled.
Repeated attempts to engage the National Water Commission have resulted in little to no meaningful response. The community has been patient.
That patience has run out.
While development continues in surrounding areas, including new housing projects, Beecher Town remains without basic water infrastructure. Access to water should not depend on where you live.
The people of Beecher Town deserve better. They deserve the dignity and convenience of access to clean, continuous water—just like any other community.
We are calling on the National Water Commission and the Government of Jamaica to take immediate action to implement the identified solutions and provide reliable, piped water to Beecher Town.
This includes:
- A clear and public timeline
- Allocation of the necessary resources
- Accountability to ensure delivery
Clean water is not a privilege—it is a basic human right. No community should have to wait decades for something so fundamental.
