I am so excited to share with all of you a letter I received from California's Senator Miss Cathleen Galgiani!! I am so very thankful to her for understanding the challenges that myself and so many other families have faced and that she is attempting to do something about it!! I have hope again and I pray that this will be successful!! Please continue to support "Bring Casey's Law to California" by sharing this petition with everyone you know so we can let her know how vitally important it truly is and how many lives she will be helping!!

Dear Ms. Ochoa:
Thank you for your thoughtful email sharing your concern and the heart breaking challenges you face with your 19 year old daughter, whose battle with mental health issues is compounded by addiction. The explanation of your circumstances illustrates how current law in California limits mental health officials from interceding with an unwilling adult, for the safety of that adult. I understand you are proposing the California State Legislature consider adopting something similar to Ohio and Kentucky's "Casey's Law".
My first concern is your daughter, so I asked Mr. Frank Damrell, a member of my Modesto District Office, to contact Mr. Luis Molina, a mental health professional with Stanislaus County Mental Health. He assigned Mr. Abraham Andres to discuss services available and potentially coordinate care for your daughter.
I also asked Mr. Damrell to research the history of similar proposals to "Casey's Law" in the California State Legislature and around the country. He is talking to mental health professionals, law enforcement and Taylor Woolfork, of my Capital staff, about the potential language for a comprehensive legislative proposal for 2016. The issue of individual liberties is not one I take lightly, but a proposal that gets much needed help to addicts and mentally ill would be a tremendous victory for the individual, family and community.
Once again, thank you for contacting me with this personal, family crisis. If you have questions or comments on this or any other state matter, please feel free to contact my Modesto District Office at 209-576-6273.
Sincerely,
Cathleen Galgiani
Senator, District 5
