The Issue

It's 2026. Isn't it time we have a donor clinic and processing plant for Northern Communities?

Did you know that 2011 was the last time Canada Blood Services hosted a donor clinic in Grande Prairie, Alberta? We have a population of over 70000 people. Our hospital is 64000 square meters.  There are 243 private patient rooms. The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital can accommodate 65000 emergency department visits annually.  That's 178 ER departments per day, average.

Canada Blood Services' National Blood Inventory states we have  4 days of O-Negative blood on hand.  Only 7% of the Canadian population has it, which means that 7% of the Canadian population can ONLY receive O-Negative blood. That's almost 3 million people... out of 41 million Canadian residents.

Canada Blood Services says there has been a 20% decrease in blood supply since June 2026, and a recent survey suggests that over 20% of the Peace Region is willing and ready to donate.  This is our chance!

We are urging Canada Blood Services to let the Northern Communities help. It's simple as that.  My reasoning? Canada Blood Services is begging for donors, while we are begging them to let us donate from our city. Not everyone is capable of travel.
