Bring back tortillas for Texas Tech

Bring back tortillas for Texas Tech
The Issue
For years, the tradition of tossing tortillas at Texas Tech's sporting events has been a vibrant and cherished part of our community spirit. As a proud member of the Texas Tech community, I've always looked forward to that unique and exhilarating moment when thousands of tortillas would soar through the air, uniting us in a shared show of support and enthusiasm for our teams. This tradition, though quirky, embodies the unity, pride, and unique character that make Texas Tech special.
However, to our dismay, this tradition has been curtailed, leaving a void in our game day experiences. It's not just about the tortillas—it's about the camaraderie, the connection, and the sense of belonging that this tradition fosters among students, alumni, and fans alike. The absence of this ritual has been felt deeply by many who consider it an integral part of our Texas Tech identity.
Restoring this tradition doesn't mean letting go of responsibility. We propose working closely with Texas Tech administration and local vendors to ensure environmentally friendly practices are used, such as biodegradable tortillas, to maintain the campus and field cleanliness. Additionally, designated areas and safety guidelines can be established to ensure that the tradition is enjoyed safely by all.
According to a study published by the Texas Society of Traditional Events, campus traditions like this one significantly contribute to student and alumni engagement and have a positive impact on community morale. By reinstating the tortilla tradition, we can revive the vibrancy of Tech's game days and further strengthen the Red Raider spirit, something that has shone brightly in the past and deserves to continue in the future.
We urge the Texas Tech administration to consider the passions and perspectives of its community members and bring back this beloved tradition. Please join me in signing this petition to restore the joy and unity of game days at Texas Tech. Let's toss those tortillas once again and show our unwavering Raider pride!
