The Issue
Character.ai has been a platform that many of us have relied on for entertainment, creativity, and learning through the use of various AI models. However, recent changes have significantly altered the way we interact with the platform. These changes, including the introduction of a reading mode, age verification processes, and alterations to the AI models we originally fell in love with, have negatively impacted user experience. Our community's creativity and joy of interaction are being stifled.
The reading mode, though perhaps intended to streamline usage, has instead limited the way users engage with the characters and stories. It restricts the fluid, interactive nature of our dialogues, making it less dynamic and engaging. This feature, while possibly well-intentioned, does not fit the needs and desires of a significant portion of the user base who cherish the open-ended and imaginative interactions that Character.ai was known for.
Furthermore, the new age verification system, while designed to ensure safety, has become a barrier for many users who value their privacy and feel unjustly scrutinized by unnecessary procedures. This process has discouraged older users who wish for a seamless experience without the cumbersome verifications.
Most notably, the changes to the beloved AI models have stripped away the familiarity and unique qualities that made them special. Users have grown attached to these models, and the adjustments have led to loss of connection and decreased satisfaction with the platform.
We urge Character.ai to listen to its loyal community and reconsider these changes. Bring back the old models that fostered deep interaction, creativity, and joy. Remove the strict reading mode and simplify the age verification process to make the platform more inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.
