I wanted to share a quick update and thank everyone who has taken the time to read, comment, or support this effort.
Recent cases in Utah have reminded us of how important it is to ensure children don't fall through the cracks. In the case involving the Franke children, it ultimately took the strength and courage of a young boy to escape and seek help - not just for himself, but for his sister as well.
No child should have to rely on their own strength alone to survive abuse or neglect. Our systems should be strong enough to protect them before things reach that point.
The Gavin Peterson Child Safety Bill was intended to address a gap in the law by allowing a judge to authorize a welfare check when investigators have credible abuse reports but are being blocked from seeing the child. It would not automatically remove children from their homes - it would simply allow professionals to confirm that a child is safe.
My goal with this petition is to encourage Utah lawmakers to revisit this issue and consider strengthening protections so that no child has to face such a situation alone.
Thank you again to everyone who has engaged in this conversation and supported the effort.
