The DCC is calling for submissions on the beach right now. We have to act quickly.
The iconic St Clair poles were an effective sand trap groyne.
Beachgoers during the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s will remember a 3 metre higher beach, and any photographs show the same.
Groynes were constructed on St Clair in 1902, 1921, 1936 and 1955 because they work.
Now is the exact time to ask DCC to repair and reinstate this remaining groyne so we can all see how it performs with the current climate and Esplanade seawall.
If you want to stop erosion and fix the beach, please tell them on-line at https://www.dunedin.govt.nz/do-it-online/have-your-say/st-clair-to-st-kilda-coastal-plan-feedback.
Our petition will count but individual submissions are needed to tip the balance.
Thank you
Jules
