PETITION TO GREENE KING: PROTECT YE OLDE ROSE & CROWN – A VITAL LGBTQ+ SAFE SPACE

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about recent changes at Ye Olde Rose & Crown in Greenwich—long known and cherished as a welcoming, inclusive LGBTQ+ pub.

Without warning or explanation, the LGBTQ+ bunting inside the pub and the large Pride flag outside have been removed. These symbols were not mere decorations; they were vital expressions of identity, inclusion, and safety. Their sudden absence has left many of us feeling unwelcome and erased in our own community space.

The Rose & Crown has for years been more than just a pub—it is a lifeline and sanctuary for LGBTQ+ people and allies. Gay and straight regulars alike value it as a rare and essential space where all are welcome without judgment. The staff, many of whom are themselves LGBTQ+, have always fostered this atmosphere of belonging.

The unexplained removal of this identity raises serious questions. If the decision was made under pressure from Greene King management, we respectfully urge the company to reconsider. Erasing queer visibility undermines not only the spirit of Pride but also the trust of the community that supports and sustains this pub.

With Pride Month approaching, we also question whether Greene King intends to support Greenwich Pride this year. The Rose & Crown has always been a cornerstone of the event. Silence now sends a message that contradicts the values of diversity and inclusion.

We ask Greene King to publicly affirm its commitment to the LGBTQ+ community by:

Restoring the Pride flag and bunting at Ye Olde Rose & Crown

Ensuring the pub continues to be visibly inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly

Clarifying their position on support for Greenwich Pride 2025

This pub is more than just a business—it is part of who we are. Please honour that, because we can and will vote with our feet.

Signed,
Concerned Members of the Greenwich Community
