Bring Back Oxford University Alumni Email Addresses for All Graduates!

Bring Back Oxford University Alumni Email Addresses for All Graduates!
The Issue
IMPORTANT EDIT: PLEASE READ THE 'UPDATE' SECTION
Note: This petition is applicable to both recent and older graduates of Oxford.
As a proud graduate of the University of Oxford, I was surprised and disappointed to learn that alumni email addresses are no longer offered to graduates (whether recent or older). This small yet meaningful service was discontinued, reportedly due to “very heavy signs of wear and tear,” with support now limited to legacy users (source here and here).
Having access to an official Oxford-branded email address is not just a perk—it’s a vital tool for maintaining professional identity, staying connected to the university, and fostering lifelong relationships between Oxford and its graduates. Many leading universities provide their alumni with personal email addresses for life - take a look for yourself at these links here: Cambridge, MIT, Stanford, Yale, Imperial, UToronto and many many more. Why should Oxford, a global leader in education and innovation, lag behind?
We are calling on the University of Oxford to reinstate this service for all alumni for the following reasons:
Professional Identity: An “ox.ac.uk” email address or other Oxford specific email addresses (e.g., ‹firstname›.‹lastname›@oxford.edu; or @alumni.ox.ac.uk; or @oxon.org) allows alumni to showcase their connection to Oxford in professional settings, adding prestige and credibility to their profile.
Lifelong Connection: Offering alumni an Oxford email address shows that the university deeply cares about their graduates by giving them an active way to maintain a connection to the institution, which can foster goodwill and a sense of belonging long after graduation.
Alumni Engagement: Alumni who feel connected to their alma mater are more likely to attend events, network with peers, and give back through donations to the university.
Global Branding: Alumni with Oxford-branded emails carry the university’s name across industries and borders, enhancing its global reputation.
Ease of Implementation: With today’s cloud-based technology, managing email accounts is more scalable and cost-effective than ever, so the whole "heavy wear and tear" argument is not very convincing anymore.
Oxford graduates invest significant time, effort, and financial resources into their education. Offering an official email address is a small but meaningful gesture of appreciation for this commitment.
Let’s show the University of Oxford that there’s strong support for bringing back alumni email addresses as a service for all graduates. Together, we can strengthen the bond between Oxford and its alumni, ensuring this relationship lasts a lifetime.
Sign and share this petition if you believe Oxford alumni deserve access to an official university email address!
Thank you for your time and consideration!
