The Issue

Whereas; it's nice to see the change of pace of a show set in Michigan instead of something set in NYC or Chicago for the four-hundredth time and no matter where it's filmed (but I presume at least some parts must have been filmed there helping the Michigan economy) representation matters setting-wise.

Whereas; talent like Aja Naomi King, Melissa Fumero and AnnaSophia Robb is too great to let go to waste and the show wasn't even long-lived enough that it could be what springboards them to even bigger shows and AnnaSophia Robb in particular is someone who I essentially (and I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one) grew up with in the metaphorical way one can watching a celebrity given her appearance as Samantha Parkington in Samantha: An American Girl Holiday (and her character Alice is my favorite as I relate to her personality (or at least the good aspects) and wish I could borrow half her wardrobe

Whereas; the success of CBS's Beyond The Gates has proven there's room for soap-y shows on network TV that don't have a procedural component like, well, ABC's entire Thursday night lineup

Whereas; after cancelling so many shows NBC needs something to hold down the fort and make it not garner the same reputation as Netflix that isn't just Dick Wolf and I find it hard to believe there's only room for two non-Dick-Wolf scripted shows (the already-renewed Brilliant Minds and The Hunting Party) in between all the basketball

Whereas; shows need room to be cult classics and don't deserve to be cancelled if they're not megahits, I can name a lot of shows that started on a similar path and were let grow to massive success. Heck, ABC's soapiest shows Grey's Anatomy and Scandal and NBC's own megahit sitcoms The Office and 3rd Rock From The Sun started with short seasons as short as GPGS's if not shorter (albeit because they were mid-season replacements not because of a writer's strike) and went on to become culturally iconic

Whereas; a lot of the other shows on other networks in timeslots it could be put up against (like how it suffered due to being up against The Equalizer until the Friday move) have ended so it could flourish

Whereas; this is the sort of show where if it's given a second season to do that could get its profile really boosted with crossovers like e.g. imagine our heroes teaming up with the crew from Leverage: Redemption to con, say, someone even richer like that other garden society Birdie was spying on or w/e

Therefore NBC or at least Peacock should give Grosse Pointe Garden Society another chance and pick it back up for a S2
