Bring back Crackle as a free streaming service in 2026

Bring back Crackle as a free streaming service in 2026
The Issue
Crackle (formerly Grouper (around 2004-2007) and Sony Crackle (2018-19)) was an American-based free-to-watch video streaming service. It was founded in 2004 as Grouper, before the service was purchased by Sony Pictures in 2006 and renamed Crackle. In 2018, the name was changed to Sony Crackle. However, things went downhill, a year later in March 2019, Sony sold a majority stake to the now-defunct Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (an American media company based in Cos Cob, Connecticut and was a subsidiary of the publisher Chicken Soup for the Soul) and the name was changed back from Sony Crackle to simply Crackle. Five years later in July 2024, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment was placed in Chapter 7 liquidation, which entailed a liquidation of the company's assets and the cessation of its subsidiaries, including Crackle; while all other subsidiaries were closed, the Chapter 7 trustee kept the Crackle website operating for the United States until June 2025.
We want Sony and The Orchard (aka Orchard Distribution) to bring back Crackle as a return to a free-to-watch streaming service and also add live TV with free 24/7 channels like Crackle, Crackle Kids, Crackle Comedy, Crackle Action, Crackle Horror, and Crackle Games.
Crackle has a bunch of movies, TV shows, anime, and animated TV shows too. Besides Sony Pictures and even anime straight from Crunchyroll and Animax, they also haved acquired content from respective companies. A24, A&E Networks, BBC Studios, CBS Media Ventures, Cineville, Discotek Media, Entertainment One, Epic Pictures, FilmRise, Endemol, Smart Dog Media, Fremantle, Gaumont, Hallmark Entertainment, Lionsgate, Magnolia Pictures, MarVista Entertainment, Nordisk Film, Oscilloscope Laboratories, Samuel Goldwyn Films, Screen Media Ventures, Shout! Factory, STX Entertainment and Tribeca Film. Plus they even added Crackle Kids, a free to watch streaming service dedicated to animated shows and live-action shows aimed at both children and teenagers, as well as Crackle Anime, a free-to-watch streaming service dedicated to anime shows.
We call upon Orchard Distribution and Sony to consider reviving Crackle in 2026. As corporations committed to entertainment and cultural enrichment, bringing back Crackle would demonstrate a dedication to diverse and accessible media consumption. We propose they work together to not only restore Crackle but to enhance its offerings and partnerships to secure its longevity.
By reinstating Crackle, you have the power to reignite the enthusiasm and joy of millions who cherished its presence. Join us in urging Sony and Orchard Distribution to bring back this essential service. Please sign this petition to help us make Crackle's return a reality.
