Growing up in Nova Scotia, I have fond memories of the Dominion Atlantic Railway’s legendary locomotive, CPR 999 “Fronsac.” For me and many others, it represents not just a piece of our past, but a connection to our heritage, our community, and the profound importance of railways in Canada’s history. Tragically, this cherished piece of our history has been left neglected, far from home.

Built in 1936, the CP 999 "Fronsac" was once a marvel of engineering, celebrated for its iconic design and incredible performance. However, since 1960, the locomotive has languished under Expo Rail's care, enduring years of neglect as it stood exposed to the elements. Out of public and local view since 2002, it has been reduced to a shadow of its former glory, with neither plans for restoration nor funds allocated to preserve this national treasure.

The good news is we have the power to change this story. By repatriating the Fronsac to Nova Scotia, we can embark on a mission to restore it to its original, semi-streamlined beauty. This restoration project would not only honor our local history but also serve as an educational tool and tourist attraction, reigniting interest in the golden era of Canadian rail transport.

To make this dream a reality, I propose the formation of a committee involving local historians, railway enthusiasts, and governmental representatives to oversee this project. Funding avenues can range from crowdfunding efforts, grants from heritage preservation societies, and public-private partnerships. We need your support to demonstrate the interest necessary to make these possibilities a reality.
