The Issue

For more than two decades, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has meant something special to millions of people. When the original series aired from 1997 to 2003, it wasn’t just a show about vampires and monsters. It was a story about courage, friendship, growing up, and standing together against darkness. Generations of fans grew up with Buffy Summers and the world of Sunnydale.

That’s why so many people were excited to hear that a new chapter was coming.

A reboot titled Buffy: New Sunnydale had already taken meaningful steps forward. Directed by Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao and featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar returning as Buffy alongside a new slayer played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong, the project aimed to honor the legacy of the original series while introducing a new generation of heroes.

But Hulu has now decided not to move forward with the show, even after a pilot was completed.

Fans understand that television decisions are complicated. Budgets, schedules, and business strategies all play a role. But the passion for Buffy’s world hasn’t disappeared. If anything, the reaction to this news has shown how deeply people still care about the characters and the story.

The Buffy universe deserves the chance to continue.

That’s why we are calling on major streaming platforms and networks—including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Max, and other distributors—to step forward and give Buffy: New Sunnydale a home.

A new platform could allow the creators, cast, and fans to bring this story back to life while honoring what made the original series so powerful. Reviving the project would also celebrate a franchise that has inspired audiences across generations with its message that ordinary people can stand up to extraordinary challenges.

Buffy taught us that when the world feels dark, you don’t face it alone.

Now fans are asking the entertainment industry to do the same: recognize the enduring love for this story and give the reboot another chance to live.

Sign this petition to show networks and streaming platforms that the Buffy legacy still matters—and that the world is ready to return to Sunnydale.
