Bring an Indoor Skatepark and Youth Hub to Lowestoft
The Issue
This facility would welcome skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter riders, inline and quad skaters, and wheelchair users. It would be a safe, inclusive environment where beginners can gain confidence, experienced riders can train, and talented athletes can develop the skills needed to compete at regional, national and even Olympic level. Skateboarding is now an Olympic sport, yet there are no indoor facilities in our region that allow young people to train consistently throughout the year.
Skateboarding has changed Ethan's life. It has given him confidence, determination, friendships, and a real sense of belonging. Recently, Ethan had the opportunity to meet with MP Jess Asato to share his dream of bringing an indoor skatepark to Lowestoft, a place where everyone, regardless of age, ability or wheeled discipline, can come together to learn, progress and be part of a positive community.
That conversation inspired a bigger vision: an all-weather, competition-standard indoor skatepark alongside a modern youth hub that would provide opportunities for people across Lowestoft and the surrounding areas all year round.
The vision extends far beyond ramps. The youth hub could include:
* A community café and social space.
* Music, media and creative workshops.
* Recreational games and activities.
* Holiday clubs, coaching sessions and school programmes.
* Competitions, demonstrations and community events.
* Bike, skateboard and scooter maintenance workshops.
* Safe spaces for young people to meet, learn and build friendships.
Lowestoft and the surrounding area have incredible young people with huge potential, but many lack accessible, affordable places to spend their free time. An indoor skatepark and youth hub would provide a positive alternative, encouraging physical activity, creativity, resilience, teamwork and mental wellbeing while helping to reduce isolation and anti-social behaviour.
Facilities like this have shown that investing in young people creates stronger communities. They provide safe places where people of all backgrounds can connect, support one another and develop lifelong skills.
Lowestoft and the surrounding area deserves a facility that reflects the ambition of its community a place that attracts visitors, hosts competitions and events, boosts the local economy, and gives young people something to be proud of.
