Bring a Roller Skating Rink to Homestead & Florida City

Bring a Roller Skating Rink to Homestead & Florida City
The Issue
Homestead and Florida City deserve more safe, community-centered recreational spaces.
Right now, families, teens, young adults, seniors, and residents of all ages in our area have very limited options for entertainment and recreation. Many residents have to drive all the way to Miami just to enjoy activities like roller skating, ice skating, or organized roller derby.
For people without cars, public transportation to these locations can take nearly 3 hours each way, making these activities almost impossible to access.
Our community continues to grow, yet we still lack spaces that encourage healthy activity, creativity, social connection, and safe fun for people of all ages.
A roller skating rink could become more than just entertainment. It could provide:
• A safe place for teens, families, adults, and seniors to gather
• Fitness opportunities through skating and roller derby
• Community events, lessons, birthday parties, themed nights, and programs for all ages
• Jobs and economic growth for local residents
• A positive alternative to isolation, inactivity, and having nowhere local to go
Roller skating has made a major comeback across the country, bringing together teens, adults, families, and seniors from all backgrounds. Homestead and Florida City deserve the chance to be part of that movement too.
We are asking local leaders, developers, and business owners to seriously explore bringing a roller skating and recreation center to the Homestead/Florida City area.
In addition to an indoor roller skating rink, we would also love to see the development of an outdoor skate park or skating area nearby. A dedicated outdoor space for roller skaters, skateboarders, scooter riders, and BMX riders would give local youth and young adults another healthy, active outlet close to home.
Many surrounding areas have invested in recreational skating spaces because they create community engagement, encourage physical activity, and provide safe environments for people to socialize and build skills. Homestead and Florida City deserve access to those same opportunities.
An indoor rink paired with an outdoor skate space could help create a true recreational hub for South Miami-Dade families, teens, adults, seniors, and local skating communities.
Our community deserves more spaces that inspire joy, movement, connection, and opportunity.
Please sign this petition and share it to show that there is real demand for a roller skating rink in our area.
If you support this, please leave a comment too! Community feedback helps show local interest 💛🛼
