The issue

Let's create more opportunities for our community to ride, stay active and connect!

Imagine a place where children can learn new skills, teenagers can challenge themselves, families can enjoy the outdoors and riders of all abilities can have fun close to home.

As a local student, Kahibah resident and passionate mountain biker, I believe our community would benefit from having more accessible places to ride. Currently, local riders may need to travel further to reach a pump track, and existing facilities can become busy. A pump track at Kahibah Memorial Park could provide another convenient recreational option for Kahibah and surrounding suburbs.

What is a pump track?

A pump track is a circuit of smooth rollers and banked turns that allows riders to build speed through body movements rather than relying solely on pedalling. Depending on its design, it can accommodate bicycles, scooters and other suitable wheeled sports equipment. It provides opportunities for beginners to build confidence and experienced riders to develop their skills.

Why would our community benefit?

More opportunities for young people: Provide a fun, active place to spend time with friends and develop new skills.
Healthier lifestyles: Encourage outdoor exercise, coordination, balance and physical activity.
A facility for different abilities: Give beginners, families and experienced riders opportunities to enjoy riding at their own pace.
A stronger community: Create a place for residents to meet, share interests and enjoy outdoor recreation.
Benefits for local businesses: Potentially attract visitors who may also support nearby cafés, bakeries and shops.
Why Kahibah Memorial Park?
Kahibah Memorial Park is an established community space that could be considered for additional recreational facilities. With careful planning, a pump track could complement the park while retaining the playground, toilets and other valued amenities.

Council would need to assess the available space, existing pathways, vegetation, safety, environmental impacts and costs, while consulting residents and considering the needs of other park users.

What are we asking Council to do?
We are calling on Lake Macquarie City Council and our local elected representatives to:

  • Investigate whether Kahibah Memorial Park is a suitable location for a pump track.
  • Consult local residents, young people, families, schools, cycling groups and nearby businesses.
  • Explore suitable designs, construction and maintenance costs, and potential funding opportunities.

Help make it happen!

A pump track could provide another valuable opportunity for our community to be active, develop skills and enjoy the outdoors. By supporting this petition, you can help demonstrate that local residents are interested in exploring this idea.

Please sign and share this petition to show your support for investigating a pump track at Kahibah Memorial Park!
