Larkspur Bike Park update & MTB movie night on Tuesday

Hello Larkspur Bike Park Supporters!

A quick update on the bike park project, including our first real curveball, plus an invitation to get together Tuesday night at the Lark Theater. 

Where things stand: our first curveball

We still believe the former dog park behind Hall Middle School is an exceptionally strong location for a community bike park here in Larkspur.

However we have learned that the property is currently tied up in a broader discussion involving land, wetlands restoration, and funding with the city and several regulatory agencies. Until those questions resolve, Larkspur Parks & Recreation won't formally consider a bike park proposal for that site. The site remains a real possibility but we need to change our approach. The city staff we've worked with have been responsive and helpful and Larkspur's environmental obligations at this site are legitimate. 

What we're doing next

Next week we meet with Larkspur's Director of Parks & Recreation and the Assistant City Manager to understand the right path forward for a project like this. We want to know how a community group gets a new recreational amenity prioritized by the City without a specific location identified. We'll report back after that conversation with a clearer picture of what comes next and how you can help most effectively.

We knew this would be hard and we've hit our first obstacle...and Larkspur still needs a bike park! Other groups have ideas for Larkspur's public land, which is why bike park supporters need to be visible and organized now. 

This Tuesday, September 8: The RITUAL Mountain Bike Film Tour

Next week we have a fun chance to come together as a community. Local Neon is hosting a screening of The Ritual Mountain Bike Film Tour on Tuesday at The Lark Theater in downtown Larkspur at 6:00 PM. Before the film we'll give a short update from the stage on the bike park project and introduce a few special guests. Afterwards, come across the street to Local Neon for an afterparty for free popsicles and great conversation with likeminded bike people. It will be a great chance to meet other people who care about a Larkspur Bike Park. Bring your ideas, or just come hang out!
