Change BSU Parking Rules

The Issue

The designated parking areas at Bridgewater State University and who they are intended for are confusing and unjust! We want to reach leadership and presidency here to change exactly what parking is intended for who.

  • For example, Weygand lot is intended for residents while the parking garage right next to it is intended for commuters, despite being a 2-minute walk from two residence halls and a 10-20 minute walk from any buildings in which classes are held.
  • So many residents are being ticketed for trying to avoid being snowed in yet again inside the Weygand lot and trying to avoid the dangerous trek to get to their building from other residential parking lots.
  • If we allow commuters to park in the half-empty staff lots as well (like they did in 2020 when there were some in-person classes in the middle of a pandemic yet it was still too dangerous to have a parking monitor), then commuters will be so much closer to the buildings they actually need to be at.
  • On top of that, residential cars are parked, out in the open, for longer periods of time and are more likely to get covered in feet of snow as demonstrated by the recent storm and disastrous"solutions" causing all residents to move their cars to other, much further lots and get even more covered.
  • Residential students should not have to be ticketed for trying to avoid the mess that BSU calls parking and commuter students should not have to be ticketed for just trying to be close to their classes.
