Create a second Mt. Rushmore for Civil Rights Leaders at Stone Mountain.

The Issue

In the founding documents of this nation our Founding Fathers laid out a vision of opportunity and equality that every American is entitled to regardless of race, religion, or creed. As a nation we failed miserably to live up to the righteous ideals of liberty and justice for all that they painstakingly laid out. It wasn't until the Civil Rights Movement that we we as a nation truly began to make an effort to live up to the promise of those founding documents. We owe it to history, and the heroes of the Civil Rights Movement to dedicate a new Mt. Rushmore to these Founding Fathers as well. These are the men and women who stood up, suffered, and sacrificed to firmly put us on the path that the Original Founders laid out for us. The men and women featured can be debated, but this monument would be a great way to wipe out the racist imagery and past of Stone Mountain. Let's unite around the images of Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Julian Bond, or others instead of people who betrayed our values and fought to keep a race of people enslaved and oppressed. Together we can do this and put these great Americans on that mountaintop.
