All American communities and businesses that are in proximity of the American/Canadian Northern border are in a great deal of pain.  Canadian families who have property, family, and relationships in the States have been restricted to cross all U.S. land ports of entry since March 20th, 2020.

Since restrictions were enacted by both Canada and the U.S. on March 20th, 2020, Canada did make exemptions for immediate families and long term relationships in June and October 2020.  Canada now allows fully vaccinated Americans since August 9th, 2021, and fully vaccinated non-Canadians since September 7th, 2021.  To this date all of these moves made by Canada have not been reciprocated by the U.S..

Since March 20, 2020 the U.S. never applied these restrictions to Canadians or Mexicans regardless of vaccination status entering the U.S. by air; as they have at the land crossings.  Thus creating a two tiered/discriminatory policy that benefits the wealthy and airline lobbyists.  This policy has and currently harms those who own seasonal property in the U.S., CAN-AM families/relationships, communities and businesses who rely on Canadians.  Seasonal property owners and CAN-AM families are unable to check/secure/maintain/stay on a daily/weekly/monthly basis at their property or with loved ones.  The current loophole of flying is too expensive in money, distance, and time.  There is no scientific data or evidence that shows where flying is safer, interacting with many strangers in a tin can, versus driving self isolated in your own car.

Each month when the U.S. administration announces the renewal of land border restrictions with Canada and Mexico; they cite to stop the spread of COVID-19, and the Delta Variant.  If this was actually the case, then the current flying loophole would have never been an option since March 20, 2020; or it would have been shut down.  Now with the recent announcement of the U.S. allowing the entry of fully vaccinated non-Americans by air in the near future, yet not addressing any of the land restrictions with Canada; the U.S'. closest ally and partner.

Prior pleas, phone calls, and letters to both administrations from many U.S. lawmakers, State Governors, Tourist groups, and Chamber of Commerce have gone unanswered and ignored.  Executive orders were signed, and working groups were formed to address this issue many months ago; yet here we still are with no news, and no plan when restrictions will ease at the land border.

There are currently three Congressional bills that have been sitting idle in Congress since June 2021 that would address the Northern border restrictions.  We request for you to support, co-sponsor, push, move, and pass bills H.R. 3770, H.R. 4105, and S. 2196.  Passing these bills will be the only way to reopen the Northern land border, to make seasonal property owners, CAN-AM families/relationships, communities and businesses whole again.

There is no reason why fully vaccinated travel cannot take place.  The vaccine proves it is an effective tool to fight the spread and infection of COVID.  Many Countries around the World have reopened their borders to fully vaccinated travellers; including Canada.

Owning property and love is NOT tourism.
