Break the Mould - hold landlords accountable for dangerous student living conditions!
The Issue
The Bristol rental market is ‘hellish’, says our very own SU, in large part due to the almost universal problem of mould. Combined with rising rents, and the stress of finding one of these expensive, poorly maintained properties, it is no wonder so many students have such a negative experience in the rental market.
Epigram wants to work with Bristol's SU to incorporate more support for students living with mould and damp into their My Rent My Rights campaign.
To do this, we will ask them to help us set up a sort of ‘Rent Review’ system (similar to TripAdvisor) where students can review how quickly and how effectively their landlords responded to issues.
Any landlord with a high rating in terms of trust will then receive some form of ‘verification’ from the SU that will be visible to students when they are choosing where to move into.
All we need you to do at the moment, though, is show that you care about making student housing a safe and mould-free environment. Sign the petition to join the movement. Also, answer this survey if you have any experiences with mould, damp, or just terrible landlords/letting agencies in general.
Break the mould!
N.B. you don't have to be a UoB student (or a student at all!) to sign this but, if you are, we kindly ask that you sign with an account linked to a uni email address, please and thank you :)
