Break the Chain: Let's End the Cruelty of 24/7 Dog Tethering in Ohio

The Issue: End the Chain of Death Row in Ohio
I once rescued a beautiful Golden Lab–Husky mix named Ginger. Her story will stay with me forever. Ginger was left to die on what I call “Chain of Death Row”—a life tethered, abused, and forgotten. She was terrified of men, haunted by the cruelty of her past. When I arrived to take her in, she was skeletal—her ribs, hips, and skull painfully visible. Her second owners hadn’t physically abandoned her, but they had in every other way. She had no food, no love, no relief. All she wanted was love and affection.
I took her home, and over the next 15 years, Ginger transformed into a symbol of resilience and love. She died with dignity—cradled in my arms—because someone finally saw her worth.
But Ginger’s story, as heartbreaking as it is, is far from unique.
Across Ohio, countless dogs spend their entire lives chained outdoors—exposed to freezing winters, sweltering heat, isolation, and neglect. These animals are denied the most basic needs: shelter, mobility, companionship, and care. They suffer silently. We call this existence “life,” but it's closer to a slow, preventable death.
Ohio must break the chain.
It’s time to outlaw prolonged and continuous tethering of dogs—what I call the “Chain of Death Row.” We must demand laws that guarantee:
Access to humane shelter
-Freedom of movement -Social interaction and enrichment
- Protection from abuse and neglect, -Make harsher penalties Laws to offenders
These standards are not extravagant. They are the bare minimum of what living, feeling beings deserve.
By passing legislation to ban inhumane tethering, Ohio has the chance to lead by example—to say we value compassion, dignity, and the voiceless lives that depend on us.
Please sign this petition and help free dogs from unnecessary suffering. Together, we can ensure Ginger’s legacy isn’t just a memory—it’s the beginning of real change.
I'm not just sharing a story—I'm igniting a movement. Let’s keep that momentum going. 🐾
